Designated in 1988, this scenic river preserves unspoiled land in southern West Virginia and contains natural and historic features of the Appalachian plateau.
Along its 11 miles and 4,310 acres, the lower Bluestone River offers excellent warm water fishing, hiking, boating and scenery.
Fishing and hunting are also very popular along the Bluestone River. Occasionally, the water levels are suitable for white-water boating.
The eight-mile Bluestone Turnpike Trail, between Bluestone State Park and Pipestem Resort State Park, offers great hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. A seasonal tram transports visitors to the river
from Pipestem. River level access is at Bluestone State Park.
To reach the river, take either Interstate 77 or 64 to Route 20.
