State Park Information

Kanawha State Forest, just seven miles south of Charleston, is well-known for its diverse wildflower and bird populations.

More than 25 miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails challenge all skill levels. The Spotted Salamander Trail is a paved, level walkway with Braille interpretive nature centers that are also wheelchair-accessible. Mountain bikes are welcome on certain trails.

Year-round stables rent horses, and there are bridle trails, hay rides and sleigh rides.

Playgrounds and picnic areas are located throughout the park. Hunting and fishing are allowed in season in specified areas.

Campers choose from 46 sites in a fully equipped camping area, which includes 25 more sites with electrical and water hookups.

Camping is available from mid-April to early November.
