Scenic Beach State Park, a 90-acre stretch of dense Pacific Coastal forest, abuts 1,600 feet of saltwater beach along Hood Canal and looks out to the majestic Olympic Mountains.
Visitors may camp year-round in 52 standard campsites and enjoy the beach at this former private resort, which includes a bathhouse, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts and playground equipment.
The waters of Hood Canal are filled with much marine life, and orcas and pilot whales are frequent visitors. Common birds include varied thrushes and waterfowl, willow goldfinches and pileated woodpeckers.
Amid the towering stands of Western red cedar, madrona and Western hemlock at the park, there stands a 450 year-old Douglas fir.
