The best approach to Penrose Point State Park is by sea. This 162-acre reserve includes nearly two miles of saltwater frontage and a protected basin with moorage for boats.
Landlubbers enjoy the park's walking trails. They wind through forests of Douglas fir, maple, madrona and alder, leading to hidden beaches. Wildlife includes deer, owls, woodpeckers, great blue herons and, on occasion, black bears.
A campground offers 82 tent spaces.
The Key Peninsula is rich in Native American history.
Other outdoor activities include sea kayaking, fishing, swimming, clamming and windsurfing.
Entry is free, but the park charges a parking fee.
