Moran State Park

The San Juan Islands never looked so magical as from the summit of Mount Constitution in Moran State Park. The 2,409-foot peak rises out of the clear, cold waters of Georgia Strait.

A stone observation tower at the top affords 360-degree views of the San Juans as well as the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges.

Hearty bicyclists share a paved mountain road with auto traffic. Moss-covered foot trails spiral to the top.

Located on Orcas Island, the 5,252-acre park can be reached by a state ferry leaving several times a day from Anacortes.

Visitors can roam the shores of five sparkling lakes. There are over 30 miles of hiking trails, which connect to several of the park's recreation areas. The park includes lush examples of old-growth forests. Mountain biking is best during the fall and winter months. Some mountain bike trails close during the busy summer months.

Two boat launches provide access to freshwater fishing and swimming. There is fishing for native trout in the lakes. Kayakers and canoeists enjoy the clear waters of Cascade and Mountain lakes, which prohibit gas-powered motors.

Camping facilities are extensive and include 15 primitive bicycle sites.
