The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge provides a resting and wintering area for dusky and other subspecies of Canada geese, tundra swans and ducks, primarily wigeon, mallards and pintail.
Other primary wildlife found on the refuge includes sandhill cranes, waterbirds, raptors, shore and songbirds.
The refuge consists of 5,150 acres of Columbia River floodplain. Some areas flood annually, while others are diked and farmed to produce wildlife food. Habitats include marshes, lakes, woodlands, grasslands and croplands.
