The Columbia National Wildlife Refuge provides a wintering area for an average population of more than 100,000 ducks (mostly mallards) and Canada geese.
Some mallards, redheads and cinnamon teal nest on the refuge along with various song-, water-, marsh and shorebirds, and many hawks and owls.
The 23,000-acre habitat in the famous Channeled Scablands of the Columbia River basin consists of numerous small- to medium-sized lakes surrounded by sagebrush and grassy uplands, canyons and buttes.
Trout and warmwater fishing, hunting (upland game and waterfowl), and boating are permitted. Contact the refuge for details.
