From the Columbia River to mountains exceeding 9,000 feet in height, the 1.7 million-acre Okanogan National Forest encompasses scenic drives, wilderness areas, hiking trails and old mining towns.
The Pasayten and portions of the Lake Chelan/Sawtooth Wildernesses make up about 37 percent of the forest. The North Cascades Scenic Highway offers one of the best views of the mountain landscape, which includes the Sawtooth Mountain Range.
Outstanding views can be enjoyed from Washington Pass Overlook, Slate Peak Vista, at 7,500 feet, and Buttermilk Butte.
There are wheelchair-accessible trails at Washington Pass Overlook and through high alpine country to Rainey Lake.
