These island national refuges are situated off a 100-mile stretch of Washington's coast between Flattery Rocks and Copalis Beach. More than 50,000 birds nest annually on the islands and migrating birds can swell the population to more than 1 million.
Although the islands are closed to the public to protect seabird nesting sites, wildlife observation from boats is excellent. Visitors should stay at least 200 yards from shore to avoid disturbing nesting birds.
Interpretive displays at Lake Ozette, Rialto Beach, Second Beach, Ruby Beach and Kalaloch provide information about the islands. Olympic National Park provides access to 50 miles of beaches that offer views of the islands.
