York River State Park is distinguished by its biologically-diverse estuarine environment. Occupying a tidal portion of the York River, the 2,550-acre park also includes marshland and freshwater ponds.
There are more than 25 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Guided canoe trips, leaving from the visitor center, offer an up-close lesson in saltwater ecology.
The York River section of the park is popular with fishermen, with stores of catfish, croaker, trout and spot. Fishing at Taskinas Creek and Woodstock Pond yields bluegill, largemouth bass and white perch.
The park is rich in local history, having been the site of a 17th- and 18th-century tobacco warehouse.
There is a parking fee charged.
