Westmoreland State Park is a wooded retreat along the coastal plain of the Potomac River, adjacent to the birthplaces of George Washington and Robert E. Lee.
Near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, the 1,299-acre park is a popular spot for saltwater fishing for striped bass and bluefish.
There are six miles of hiking trails, including one that leads to Horsehead Cliffs and its spectacular view of the river. A park campground offers developed campsites, vacation cabins and boat rentals. Visitors can launch their canoes from the park.
The park amenities, including pool, boat rentals and snack bar, are open Memorial Day through Labor Day. There are wildlife exhibits and shark's teeth collections on display.
