The Erie National Wildlife Refuge, located in Crawford County, 35 miles south of Lake Erie, provides habitat for waterfowl on 8,800 acres of beaver ponds, pools and marshland, as well as grasslands, wet meadows and forested slopes.
Waterfowl migrations occur from March to early April and again from September to November. Nesting species include Canada geese, wood ducks, mallards, blue winged teal, hooded mergansers and bald eagles.
Visitors can view nature from hiking trails and drives within the refuge. Hunting and fishing regulations are available from staff at the visitors center and in boxes located throughout the refuge. The refuge offers a wheelchair accessible fishing pier.
