East of Eugene, the Willamette National Forest stretches 110 miles along the western slope of the Cascades and covers 1.67 million acres.
Visitors come here to camp, hike, boat, swim, hunt, fish, cross-country ski and snowmobile. The forest contains 1,700 miles of trails, eight wilderness areas encompassing seven major mountain peaks and two ski areas.
The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail follows the crest of the Cascades through the wildernesses where numerous waterfalls and mountain lakes delight hikers.
Four rivers provide plenty of recreational opportunities. There are also scenic drives, lava caves and crystal-clear Waldo Lake, one of the purest in the world.
