State Park Information

Situated near the Pennsylvania border in Allegany County, this 3,000-acre park sits in the saddle created by Evitts and Martin mountains.

It is one of western Maryland's most scenic parks, named for a mile-long gorge that slices into the densely forested mountains to create sheer cliffs and stunning vistas.

The park supports a variety of activities. Hikers enjoy the 3.5-mile Evitt Mountain Trail, as well as a short canyon-overlook trail and a mile-long, wheelchair-accessible mixed-use trail.

Swimmers find three beaches and a modern bathhouse at 243-acre Lake Habeeb. A concessionaire rents out rowboats, paddleboats and canoes. Anglers try for large- and smallmouth bass, catfish and stocked trout.

The campgrounds have 278 improved sites, including 11 wheelchair-accessible sites. There are partial RV hookups and a dump station, as well as a food concession and store.

Other wheelchair-accessible facilities include boat access, fishing sites and a hunting area.
