Sand Hills State Park covers 1,123-acres of sand dunes, grasslands, wetlands and woodlands.
The dunes, hills of sand tenuously held together by vegetation, have created diverse and unique habitats. Only walk-in access is permitted in this fragile environment.
Four trails offer easy-to-moderate hikes through the woods, prairie and dunes. A .9-mile loop reaches the top of a 40-foot dune then meanders through a wetland area. Other trails range from a 1.7-mile loop over diverse but level terrain to a half-mile self-guided interpretive trail.
Permits are required for horseback riding. Horses are not allowed on the dunes and on some hiking trails.
Archery, deer, turkey and upland game hunting is allowed by permit.
