The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge covers more than 240,000 acres of wooded islands, waters and marshes. The refuge follows the Mississippi for more than 261 miles through four states.
The refuge is home to diverse wildlife, including bald eagles, great blue herons, sandhill cranes and spectacular concentrations of waterfowl.
There are a number of opportunities to fish, hunt, observe and photograph wildlife, and learn about the local environment.
The Ingersoll Wetlands Learning Center is open weekdays year-round, and also on Saturday from May to October.
The Savanna District protects land in Illinois, Iowa and a small portion of Wisconsin, and serves as a major migration stopover for birds.
