The Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge provides diverse habitat for birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
The area protects some of the oldest living things east of the Mississippi the 1,500-year-old bald cypress.
Cypress Creek refuge was established in 1990 and covers about 17,300 acres of the 35,509 planned for eventual acquisition.
