The Folsom Lake State Recreation Area attracts visitors with its blue lake and white beaches. Swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking and sunbathing are popular activities.
The18,000-acre lake was formed when the American River was dammed near the town of Folsom in 1955.
Hikers, runners, bicyclists, nature lovers and equestrians use the park's 80 miles of trails. The trail system includes a section of the Western States Pioneer Express Trail connecting Folsom Lake to Auburn State Recreation Area.
A 32-mile-long bicycle path runs downstream from the dam, connecting Folsom Lake with many Sacramento County parks before reaching Old Sacramento.
Quiet 500-acre Lake Natoma is popular for crew races, sailing, kayaking and other water sports.
Camping is available at more than 169 campsites.
