The San Joaquin River National Recreation Trail offers hikers and horseback riders a striking landscape of chaparral-covered ridges.
Part of an 11-mile trail from the Sierra National Forest to Millerton Lake State Recreation Area, the 2.5-mile long portion of the trail, managed by the Bureau of Land Management, starts at Squaw Leap Campground.
There are beautiful vistas of the San Joaquin River gorge and bright expanses of wildflowers in spring.
