The Modoc National Wildlife Refuge is home to large concentrations of waterfowl, including Canada geese, cinnamon teals, mallards, wigeons and pintails.
Sandhill cranes, eagles, hawks, shorebirds and various migratory songbirds can also be observed at the refuge.
The refuge has 7,021 acres of ponds, irrigated meadows, natural floodplains, marsh communities and sagebrush and juniper uplands.
