At Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, visitors can spend the day hiking among redwoods or fern-laced canyons.
Prairie Creek is the most diverse of the northern California redwood parks, offering 70 miles of hiking trails, 74 campsites, 14,000 acres of ancient forests and a long beach.
Designated trails are available for jogging and mountain biking, and there are nature hikes that are accessible to all.
Visitors can enjoy surf fishing for red-tailed perch along the park's shoreline.
Dogs must be on leash at all times and are not permitted on any trails.
Reservations are required for camping from May through Labor Day.
