Slide Rock State Park offers a natural water slide on Oak Creek, tucked between red rock walls and mountains layered with pine trees.
The 65-degree F water provides a cool rinse on even the hottest summer day. Water shoes and sturdy shorts are recommended for sliding down this slippery rock.
The park occupies part of a turn-of-the-century homestead. The irrigation system that Frank Pendley constructed to water his apple orchard in 1912 is still in use today.
Thirteen varieties of apples grow here and Slide Rock Market sells apple cider and some of the best apples in Arizona.
The apple trees blossom in April and the apple harvest takes place in September and October.
Fires are not permitted at the park.
