Lost Dutchman State Park is an oasis in the desert. Forests of giant saguaro cactus stand silently against the stark backdrop of the Superstition Mountains.
Jacob Waltz, the "Dutchman" who traveled through these mountains in the 1880s in search of gold, gave the area its name.
Trails lead from the park into the nearby rugged Superstition Wilderness Area of the Tonto National Forest.
Interpretive programs on the natural history and wildlife of the area and moonlit desert hikes are offered from November to April.
The campground and picnic areas are equipped with tables and grills, restrooms, showers and a dump station.
The park also offers a quarter-mile wheelchair-accessible trail and camp.
