The Boyce Thompson Southwestern Arboretum was the first botanical garden to specialize in the plants of desert regions. Located beneath the sharp peaks of the Queen Creek and Arnett canyons, the 323-acre arboretum is a living plant museum.
William Boyce Thompson founded the arboretum in 1924. It preserves native plants such as bear grass, acacias, mimosas and yuccas, as well as exotic, arid plant species from around the world.
The arboretum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is located three miles west of Superior off U.S. 60.
