Wild pecan trees and majestic cypress standing "up to their knees" in water surround Lake Chicot.
Located in a cutoff of the mighty Mississippi River, Lake Chicot is typical Delta country with languid swamps and wooded highlands.
Lake Chicot is a favorite fishing spot, famous for its bream, crappie, bass and catfish. The bayou-like havens of this quiet lake are a fisherman's dream.
Other wildlife, including mink, raccoon, bobcat, white-tailed deer, wild turkey and waterfowl, inhabit the high ground and swamplands of the region.
Housekeeping cabins stand along the lakeshore and offer sweeping views of the cypress-shrouded waters.
The 122 individual campsites have paved camping pads, dual electrical outlets, water hookups, tables and grills. Campers must register at the visitor center before occupying a site. The campgrounds are open year-round.
There is also a park general store and marina with camping, fishing and boating supplies. Visitors can rent fishing boats, and a free boat launch ramp is available.
Interpretive programs include nature walks, films, barge tours through the cypress swamps and living history demonstrations.
