The 65,000-acre Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge is located in the Felsenthal Basin of south central Arkansas.
The natural depression is covered by an intricate system of bayous, lakes and slough that nourish Felsenthal's rich wetlands.
The wetlands as well as pine forests and bottomland hardwoods provide valuable habitat for waterfowl and mammal species.
Fishing is popular in the Ouachita River which runs through the refuge.
Unimproved roads and all-terrain vehicle trails serve as popular pathways for hiking and wildlife observation, which are permitted on most of the refuge throughout the year.
In addition, a half-mile wheelchair-accessible trail and fishing area is available at the refuge visitor center. A 2.5-mile trail is located on of the south loop of the Crossett Harbor Recreation Site. It traverses a mix of woodlands and open prairies. During wet weather, portions of the trail may be impassible.
