State Park Information

The 1.8 million acres of the Coconino National Forest range in elevation from 2,600 feet to 12,633 feet at the top of the ancient volcanic San Francisco Peaks.

The spectacular Mogollon Rim, a 1,000-foot cliff, runs for miles across the southern edge of the forest.

Landscapes range from semi-arid desert to alpine tundra.

The forest contains all or parts of 10 designated wilderness areas, including the Kachina Peaks Wilderness, covering the summit of the San Francisco Peaks.

The challenging Kachina Peaks Wilderness Trail reaches some of the highest points in the state. For less strenuous outings, the Elden/Dry Lake Hills trail system offers short hikes from Flagstaff's city limits.

While visitors can drive through the forest for free, all vehicles parked in the Red Rock area of the forest for recreational purposes are required to display a "Red Rock Pass."
