This 4,500-acre site is Arizona's first archaeological state park. Located along the Little Colorado River, Homolovi, a Hopi word meaning "place of the little hills," protects four major pueblo sites thought to have been occupied between 1250 and 1425 A.D. by Hopi ancestors.
There are more than 340 sites within the park off State Route 87, including campsites, lithic scatters, agricultural features and pit houses. The park is at 4,900 feet elevation.
Archeologists usually work in the park weekdays in June and July. Special archaeological exhibits and programs are available.
Visitors also enjoy hiking, picnicking and camping.
The campground has 52 tent and RV sites with electric hookups and dump station. Showers are available year-round and water hookups are available between May and September.
The park is five miles northeast of Winslow.
