Teshekpuk Lake, a few miles from the Arctic Ocean, is southeast of Barrow. It is surrounded by wet tundra that is vital habitat for waterfowl and caribou.
The lake is 22 miles wide and surrounded by many smaller lakes. Wildlife viewing and photographic opportunities abound.
Nesting wildlife here includes migratory brant, greater white-fronted geese and Canada geese. Plovers, sandpipers, loons, jaegers, gulls and snowy owls also nest in the lake region.
Access is by charter plane from Barrow or Prudhoe Bay.
