Situated about 60 miles north of Nome, this mountain range on the Seward Peninsula features Crater Lake, spectacular canyons, cliffs, cirque lakes, the Wild Goose Pipeline, old cabins and other mining relics.
Summer visitors can hike, fish, backpack and mountaineer, while winter use includes backcountry skiing and snowmobiling.
Fishing for Arctic grayling and Dolly Varden is excellent in Canyon Creek as well as in Sinuk, Grand Central and Cobblestone rivers.
There are no trails and hikers must be well-versed in navigation. Drinking water must be treated and bears are prevalent.
There is a Bureau of Land Management campground nearby at the eastern end of Salmon Lake off Kougarok Road. There are no facilities in the Kigluaik Mountains or in the immediate surrounding area. Kougarok and Teller Roads are closed in winter.
