Centuries of glacial scouring have created the mountains, sand dunes and rivers of the Kobuk Valley National Park.
The park is surrounded by the Baird and Waring mountains and contains the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, the Little Kobuk and Hunt River dunes and parts of the Kobuk River.
The park offers backcountry hiking and camping, wildlife watching and wonderful scenery for photographers. The gentle Kobuk River is popular for fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
Administrative headquarters for the national park is in Kotzebue.
The visitor center is open only during summer.
Daily jet service is available from Anchorage and Fairbanks to Kotzebue. From Kotzebue, air charters deliver visitors to the parklands and nearby villages. Boat charters to the park are available in summer.
