Point Bridget juts into Berners Bay on Lynn Canal. Its 2,850 acres reward hikers, anglers, skiers and snowshoers with spectacular views of mountains, beaches and sea.
Three developed trails offer lengthy hikes, ranging from five- to seven-hour round-trips through varied terrain. There are three public use cabins available to rent in the park.
Points of interest include a rainforest muskeg, with fascinating plants such as the insectivorous sundew. Fall, when brightly colored leaves carpet the muskeg, is an especially nice time to visit.
Upper Cowee Meadow hosts Vancouver Canada geese and beavers who have constructed a large dam and lodge in the middle of the meadow. Black bears feed on sedges and skunk cabbage roots in spring.
In summer, melting glaciers turn Cowee Creek a milky color, which conceals the deep creek's bottom.
Those willing to negotiate Point Bridget's rocky beaches can see winged and surf scoters feeding on blue mussels in spring or sea lions surfing the waves.
The park is located on Glacier Highway, 38 miles northwest of Juneau.
