Set in the flatlands of southeast Alabama, this forest provides a pleasant sojourn for campers and day trippers interested in freshwater recreation.
Creeks were dammed to create 25-acre Blacksher Lake. Activities include swimming, fishing for bass, bream and catfish and boating. Powerboats are banned, but there are rowboats, canoes and paddleboats for rent.
Two trails, former logging roads, wind for six miles through the 960-acre park. The terrain is open pine woods. History buffs will examine the park's Great Depression-era buildings, constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Five campsites have complete hookups, and 12 more have electricity and water. Unlimited primitive camping is available. There is one cabin for rent.
