Four miles from downtown Auburn, and close to Interstate 85, Chewacla State Park offers road-weary travelers a shady respite.
The 696-acre park has cabins, 36 modern campsites and primitive campsites.
Recreation centers around the 26-acre lake. There's fishing for bass and crappie, a beach, rental boats and canoes, and picnic areas. The park also offers tennis courts and a kids' playground.
Five miles of trails, some which run through a nature preserve, invite hikers and mountain bikers.
Of historical interest are park buildings built during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
